THE Under-Secretary of State for India presents his compliments to the Under- Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and, by direction of the Earl of Crewe, forwards herewith, for the information of the Secretary of State, copy of a telegram to the Viceroy, dated the 13th December, relative to Pien-ma.
India Office, December 15, 1910,
(Telegraphic.) P.
Enclosure in No. 1.
The Earl of Crewe to Government of India.
India Office, December 13, 1910. PLEASE refer to telegram dated the 11th instant from His Majesty's Minister at Peking regarding the expedition to Pien-ma.
I should be glad to have your observations with least possible delay on reply proposed by the Foreign Office, which is to the following effect :-
"His Majesty's Government consider that, in view of failure to come to an agreement in the past, further attempts to secure joint delimitation would serve no useful purpose; there is, however, no intention on the part of His Majesty's Govern- ment to send troops beyond the frontier which was notified on the 1st May, 1906, to the Chinese Government,'
